Florence in Tuscany

Florence is commonly recognized as the “Art City” owing to its very rich heritage like architecture, carvings, historic  and scientific memories. They contribute to create the whole city like a large open museum. Piazza della Signoria is the heart of Florence where it stands the imposing Palazzo Vecchio  and the art Gallery full of carvings situated in the Loggia dei Lanzi,. In the same palazzo one can also explore the world famous Uffizi Gallery. In a short distance there is the religious core of the city, the Duomo S. Maria del Fiore whose enormous cupola was believed to cover all Tuscany in the mind of the people living in the previous Grand Duchy. Outside the Duomo one finds the  most beautiful Giotto’s Campanile and nearby the Baptistery of St. John decorated by bronze doors. The Arno river which flows along the city had always an active role in the Florentine history and the relationship between this river and the people is characterized by love and hate either for its ancient commercial advantages or for disasters caused by floods. There is a pretty big number of bridges that cross the river but its most famous is Ponte Vecchio with typical jewellery shops on the bridge sides. This is the only bridge that survived the second world war bombardment . Florence houses various museums: besides the Uffizi, the are the Galleria dell’ Accademia, the Bargello, the royal Palazzo Pitti and its eight museums among which the Galleria Palatina. In Florence one also finds the most beautiful examples of artistic woman beauty (the Botticelli’s Venus) and man beauty (the David by Donatello). The old town centre of Florence, recognized in 1982 by the Unesco as part of the world heritage, presents avenues built on the old Medieval city walls and it shows many important tourist attractions. The splendid town centre can be admired from Forte Belvedere or from  the near Fiesole hill  that offers one of the most suggestive scenario along the Arno valley. The Arno’s left bank called “Oltrarno” is also rich in tourist attractions and still today it maintains the ancient atmosphere of the old craftsman shops. Owing to the very many commercial activities Florence is the perfect city for shopping and leisure: smart high fashion boutiques, old markets in the open air, historic café (coffee houses), very many night clubs, discos, American bars, lounge-bars. Florence is the ideal city for a holiday in Tuscany. You will never forget the deep emotions that you feel.
