3 days in the green Umbria from Foligno to Montefalco passing through Bevagna, Spoleto and Giano dell’Umbria immersing ourself in a magnificent landscape among historical centres, medieval villages still intact, olive groves and vineyards where history, nature and culture blend together. 3 medium difficulty bike tours where day after day we’ll discover the beauty of this land rich in art, traditions, typical products and good eating. The Road Bike Tour Short is composed of half-day tours and it’s suitable for all those who love to take not so long rides discovering territories and villages without hurry having time to deepen and to understand all the beauty of this part of Umbria.
GENERAL DIFFICULTY LEVEL: MEDIUM (the length of the 3 stages is from 30 to 60 km with ascending altitude differences between 300 and 780 metres).
BICYCLE TYPE: ROAD BIKE
Meeting at the airport or directly at the holtel if you’ll arrive by own means and transfer to Foligno.
1ST DAY: FOLIGNO-MONTEFALCO 31 Km – ALTITUDE DIFFERENCE: up 310 m.- down 210 m.
Meeting at the hotel at 3:00 pm. Gathering of cyclists. Briefing to speak about the tour to perform and explanation of the 3 stages we’ll do together. Then departure of the afternoon tour with a difficulty index measured on a scale from 0 to 10 of 3 points. We’ll leave Foligno and through the typical agricultural landscape of the umbrian valley we’ll arrive until Madonna della Stella’s Sanctuary. From here it will begin the ascent towards Montefalco, city of art and birthplace of Sagrantino, famous red wine all over the world. Arrival at winery where we’ll have dinner and a wine tasting. Today’s route is completely flat untill Madonna della Stella’s Sanctuary. The climb towards Montefalco is about 8 km long and proceeds with a regular trend and with slopes always around 5-6 % excluding two stretches 200 metres long (about 9-10 %). Arrival at winery, dinner. Return back in Foligno by bus and hotel accommodation. Overnight stay at the hotel.
2nd DAY:FOLIGNO-RASIGLIA-SPOLETO 57 Km – ALTITUDE DIFFERENCE: up 780 m. – down 700 m.
Departure of the tour at 9:00 am. Today’s tour has a difficulty index measured on a scale from 0 to 10 of 6 points. We’ll leave Foligno climbing through the Menotre’s valley among mountains and forests until the marvelous Rasiglia’s. From here we’ll proceed along the ancient ”Via della Spina” that connects Umbria and Marche from millenniums passing through Silvignano and Campello where we could visit the marvelous Clitunno river springs. Light lunch in an Agritourism nearby the Clitunno river. From Campello we’ll go towards Spoleto on the bicycle path Assisi-Spoleto. Today’s route is a long but sweet ascent for the first 30 Km, then only descent and plan to Spoleto. Arrival in Spoleto in the afternoon and hotel accommodation. Free afternoon to visit the city or relax. Dinner, overnight stay at the hotel.
3rd DAY: SPOLETO-GIANO-BEVAGNA-FOLIGNO 56 Km – ALTITUDE DIFFERENCE: up 560 m. – down 710 m.
Departure of the tour at 9:00 am. Today’s tour has a difficulty index measured on a scale from 0 to 10 of 4 points. We’ll leave Spoleto passing through Castel Ritaldi and then climbing to Giano dell’Umbria. From Giano we’ll descent to Bastardo climbing aother time untill San Marco. Light Lunch in a tavern. From here we’ll proceed descending to Bevagna to visit one of the most beautiful italian villages. Then we’ll arrive in Foligno riding always on the plan. All beautiful things come to an end and now it’s time to say goodbye. In the afternoon, we’ll make the transfer to the airport or you’ll start your way back home by your own means.
